Project 800

A boring update…

Still looks the same, but we have changed some bits.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Sorry, not a lot has happened with Project 800 of late. It’s just been sat in the car park, left looking sorry for itself. We blame Mother Nature for being an unforgivably snow bitch. And then for being far too moist. Interpret that as you will.

You see, N2G isn’t our full-time job. Our full-time job is our, well, our full-time job. So finding time to work on our 800 is hard. It’s limited to weekends, basically. Though now the clocks have gone back, we hope to be able to start doing some more soon. If it stops raining for more than eight seconds, that is. Seriously, weather, get your shit together.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4074″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Have we done anything at all?

Well, yes actually. While the 800 may look exactly the same (notwithstanding those snazzy new number plates), we have actually done a lot. You just have to look really hard.

We’ve hoovered it out, getting rid of three tonnes of old man dust in the process. We’ve fitted the world’s most juxtaposed steering wheel and gear knob. But there’s a reason for that. Other than the fact the old wheel and knob were both literally sticky with filth. If that made you gag, be thankful you didn’t have to encounter them first hand.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4062″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’ve also given it a damn good service. So that means new oil filter, new oil, new plugs, new Pipercross factory replacement air filter, new HT leads, new coil pack and we’ve also fitted a new header tank.Though in the case of the latter part, we opted for a Volvo 850 item. It’s cheaper and seems to do the part. We just need to mount it properly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4071″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][vc_single_image image=”4070″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’ve been shopping, too. We have a full compliment of brakes from MTEC Brakes (discs, pads, braided lines and fluid), we have some new sticky rubber from the brilliant people at Falken, and we also have some lowering springs. Oh, and a cam-belt kit, but we’ll be getting someone else to do that.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”4075″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]So what’s the plan going forward? Well, we have to get the brakes fitted, which we’ll do soon. And we also need to get the tyres on, but not before we sort the alloys out with a bit of a freshen up. With that in mind, we have some Honda wheels it can sit on while we do that.

Then it will be off to Reddich, where Great Escape Cars will do what’s needed to get it MOTd and on the road. And they’ll also be fitting the timing belt kit. And maybe the springs if we ask them nicely.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”4069″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”4068″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” onclick=”img_link_large” css_animation=”appear”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

But what about that steering wheel?

Yeah, about that. Having spent a few hours hoovering, cleaning and inspecting, we have come to the conclusion that the Vitesse is far too shagged to be a nice car. Plus, we have the E60 for family duties, so we’re covered there. As such, the Vitesse is going to be going full fast road/track spec. Because… why not?

Watch this (rusty) space.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
