Coming to America…

Trying to be as cool as Steve McQueen is a tall order. But somehow, Chris Behan has pulled it off.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Every now and then you come across somebody who leaves you feeling all deflated because you’ve not achieved more with your life. Chris Behan is one of those people. Why? Because while we idly talk about doing video content ‘one day’, Chris has gone and knocked it out of the park all on his own.

He owns a Ford Puma. Nice car, that. A riot to drive and quite a looker, too. And of course, well within the territory of N2G’s budget. We would have liked to do a video about the Puma at some point, but we won’t now, because what Chris has done is absolutely off the chain.

He and his Puma have, shot for shot, recreated the original launch advert in which computer boffins made it seem as though the king of cool, Steve McQueen, was driving it himself. As videos go, this is perfect.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3078″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The thing is, the original 1997 advert was shot on the streets of San Francisco. In America. Where you can’t buy the Ford Puma. So, did Chris try and replicate it in Basingstoke? No, he didn’t. Instead, he shipped his black, Y-plate Puma over to the east coast of America. Then he drove it thousands of miles to the west coast, to San Fran, where he shot the video. THAT. IS. BRILLIANT. Chris, we salute you.

Below is the video, complete with the original playing in the bottom right corner so you can see just how frame perfect it is. There’s also something delightfully perverse about seeing a UK registered car in San Fran. It’s like Swordfishbut with more hills and less TVR.

Chris, you’re our new hero.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
